Growing your business beyond the region and around the globe

Question 1 of 4 (9/1-9/14/07)
How have you expanded your market and how do you conduct business using audio, video, and/or web technologies? Which communications technologies would you like to learn more about to help your business succeed?
Home-based PR & advertising business for 21 years, using computers, e-mail, FTP, PDFs, to work with customers locally, throughout the US, and in Europe and Australia.
I'd like to know more about how video conferencing works, what kind of software and hardware you need. How to make it cross-platform compatible and easy to do. A demonstration, perhaps?
I think the business world could enhance its customer service opportunities by using some of the new technologies. Many already use "push" technology to tell us they know what we bought, so now they know what we "need." I often get a notice from Amazon telling me that my favorite children's author has come out with a new book for my grandchild and I can send it to them with just the click of a couple of buttons.
It is hard now for businesses to meet clients "face to face." Using new technologies other than e-mail can allow businesses to interact with customers via audio and video. As a customer, I appreciate the convenience and yet miss the personal contact. How can we balance that experience? Is there a use for something like Facebook in the business world?
I have a web presence and interact daily with my clients using e-mail, sending attachments for review, copies of letters, etc. Also, in federal court, all filing is now electronic, no more trips to the Clerk's office, it is all done via filing PDFs. What I need to know more about are things such as video conferencing and how that may help me serve my clients.
Ann mentioned something like "Facebook" for businesses, and it magically arrives in my inbox! http://www.fastpitchnetworking.com Maybe someone can tell us if they use this kind of online social network. Not endorsing it, don't know anything about it yet...just passing it along!
